Pantone announced in December that its 2020 colour of the year is Classic Blue, a boundless blue shade evocative of the evening sky, that casts "a reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence and connection".
As we embark on a new decade Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue “is a colour that anticipates what's going to happen next," said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute."We are living in a time that requires trust and faith and this is expressed by a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on."
American colour company Pantone was founded in the 1950s. The Pantone Colour System was developed in 1963 to solve issues around colour matching in the printing industry and it is now the most important colour matching tool in the world. Every colour, tone and tint is awarded a number and this provides an easy, simple way to classify, communicate and match colours.
Since 2000 the Institute has decided on a colour of the year, chosen using colour trend studies across all aspects of society. This is an influential concept that allows individuals and brands across different industries to work together and the chosen colour is incorporated into fashion lines, make up, interior design, graphic design, food and merchandising.
