Send a Card to a Friend Day

February 7th is Send a Card to a Friend Day. We love this idea; not only do you get to say “You’re amazing!” to a pal, you also support small businesses. Warm glows all round (we’ll take them where we can get them this cold February). We’ve uncovered some of our favourite artist’s work to inspire you.

Jade Fisher

We love Jade’s joyful cards that celebrate friendship, kindness and encouragement (check out her “You’re going great”, “Keep on Truckin’” and “Wonder Woman” designs). She has a great Valentine’s Day selection to – pop one in your basket while you’re there.

Jade Fisher creates her hand-painted, playfully illustrated cards from her studio in Cardiff. With a degree in illustration she began her career with commissions and exhibitions inspired by Californian road trips and American folk art and in 2015 she launched into cards and paper goods, teaming up with a school friend Lauren soon after.

Inspired by outdoor adventures with her family and her much loved dogs, her aim is “to spread joy with sweet, heartfelt sentiments” no matter what the occasion. Oh and all paper and cellophane is 100% recycled – more joy!

Oh Squirrel

Oh Squirrel’s founder, Katie Wagstaff started designing cards while she was working in the fashion industry, inspired by her finds from vintage fairs and charity shops. He cheery greetings were a huge hit and she decided to switch careers. Oh Squirrel was founded in 2012 and it has gone from strength to strength with Tatler magazine naming it one of the “best stationery shops in the UK”. Indeed. Her glitter cards are perfect to send your mate. Pick from “You are bloody brilliant”, “You are flipping fantastic”, or “I just bloody well love you”. And they’re available with a leopard-print background too. What more could you want?!

Text From A Friend

Ever giggled at a text that’s just popped up on your phone? Text From a Friend’s Sharon Caddie was so tickled by her friend’s messages she started to scribble them down and post them on social media. And then the requests for cards and prints started to roll in. Sharon hand draws the text, and then it’s printed onto high quality paper, using the traditional technique of hot foil press.

These are luxurious cards but with cheeky messages. Their love and friendship collection has some great ones.. “You’re weird – I like that”, “I still remember how we started talking”, “You get me” and “I’m not a people person but I like you”. We also love their celebration collection “We should celebrate with alcohol” and the classic, “Wait, what?”

Super fresh – they were founded in 2018, Kinshipped have just launched their first collection of sustainable luxury cards and wrap and, after a hugely successful first trade show, Top Drawer, their wholesale site is now live.

Their graphic designs are chic but fun. These cards are perfect to send to style-conscious friends, and they’re ethical! Trying to be a “new soul in card and wrap publishing”, all cards are printed on FSC paper, the wrapping ink is vegetable based, and all come packaged compostable cellophane.

Mock Up Designs

Natalie Mock has a degree in Architecture and a Masters in Brand Development, and spent ten years producing graphics and managing sponsors and events for the Welsh Rugby Union and Millennium Stadium. However, she spent her spare time creating stationery for her friends – specialising in contemporary, elegant wedding invites. In 2016 she decided to leave work to focus on her stationery and Mock Up Designs was founded.

Based in Cardiff Natalie describes herself as “a self-confessed monochrome lover” but we love her use of colour. Her custom watercolour illustration collection is so refreshing – “thank you,” “good luck” “congratulations” “sorry…”. All clean, bright and modern.

Natalie also offers a bespoke service.
